Green Energy / Power Failure
Electricity on Cayman Brac is supplied by the local power company and generated through burning diesel fuel. In an effort to supply cleaner energy for villa users, a solar system was installed in 2022.
The villa is now partially powered by 36 solar panels on the roof and they supply adequate power to run the house during daylight hours on sunny days. To maximize "green energy" efficiency, we suggest running high energy appliances (e.g. clothes dryer and washer, oven, dishwasher) during the day if possible.
Grid power failures sometimes occur on the island and are normally don’t last very long (less than one hour) as the power company makes a great effort to resolve the issue.
Internet and WiFi back up:
During power failures, please note:
Water will not flow during a power failure because the water pump requires electricity. Each toilet will have enough water in the tank for one flush during a power failure.
The house telephone will not work during a power failure. Internet calling will still be possible using apps on your mobile phone, such as Skype or WhatsApp.
Emergency flashlights are plugged in to the wall outlets in the living room and hallway. You can unplug these and use them during power failures as needed. Please re-plug them in after use.
To use the oven after a power failure, the time on the oven clock must first be reset before the oven will turn on. Wall outlets in kitchen and bathrooms must be reset after a power failure by pressing the Reset button in the center of the outlet.

- A solar system inverter and 18 kW battery are installed on the laundry room wall and guests are reminded to not touch any of the components.

- During a grid power failure, the solar power system will take over powering the house until the battery is completely drained. There is also a secondary APC backup battery located on the living room desk that will automatically keep the villa WiFi running for up to 4 more hours. To silence the intermittent beeping alarm on the APC battery backup unit, press and hold the alarm button on the front right side of the unit.
